Memes Matter, #2

SSM-Meme-01B

It takes courage to come to terms with your sexual identity. Everyone’s journey is different. For some, it happens early on. For others, it’s complicated. I want to live in a world in which clergy can be your friend in this journey.

Consider these words: “‘Coming-out’ is an overly reductive term, as if at one moment you’re in the closet and then the next, you’re not. For most of us, that’s not how it happens. The process of revelation is more like an Advent calendar, where you open door after door, behind each of which is a different element of identity.” —Jeff Chu, author of Does Jesus Really Love Me? A Gay Christian’s Pilgrimage in Search of God in America (Harper, 2013)

I’m launching a series of memes as conversation starters on social media (namely, Facebook and Twitter) with messages that are relevant to the subject matter of my memoir this month, which marks the one-year anniversary of my book’s release.
